It seems as if the rookie of the year candidates continue to get better and better, with each season. In 2012, the SBL saw its best group of rookies. 1B Conor Jackson of the Nationals put up an amazing .297 AVG, 44 HR and 113 RBI's. As impressive as Jackson was, he placed second in the ROY voting, behind San Francisco's Sandy Koufax. Koufax posted a 17-4 record, with a 1.76 ERA. Believe it or not, there are two more candidates pushing for as good, or better seasons than last years rookies!
Once again coming from Washington, a former Red, RF Jay Bruce. In 89 games, Bruce is hitting .309, with 23 HR and 52 RBI. Despite Washington playing in a hitters park, there is no denying that they have produced some great rookie of the year candidates.
The main reason for this article, would be Cincinnati's own, SP Morrie Stillman. He is definitely in contention for the Rookie of the Year, and perhaps the Cy Young Award? Through 17 starts, Stillman is an amazing 13-0, with a 3.15 ERA. This is by far the best record, and winning streak by any pitcher in SBL history.
Stay tuned, and we'll see how long Stillman can keep it going!
