This is a proposal to eliminate the current Free Agent System and also help the evaluating of trades. If accepted this proposal will take place at opening day 2016.
1. The currents FA system is changed to a pick style system.
2. Money is eliminated
3. Order of FA picks. The #1 pick goes to the 5th overall standing team for the season. Putting the 4 playoff teams at the bottom of the draft order from worst to best record. These picks CAN NOT be traded until the post season is over, as their value is uncertain till the previous season ends.
5. Every team has 1 FA protection as they do now. A max of 3 FA can be taken from any team during the FA Draft.
4. Amature picks can only be traded after the Post Season.
5. The Trade Chair is eliminated and trades are passed or veto by the Commissioner’s vote. If a trade is debatable by the Commissioner, the trade is voted on league wide.
This should help evaluate trades a lot better by eliminating money and the uncertainty of picks. The FA Pick system doesn’t give the rebuilding teams a double bonus of top picks, and the top contending teams need to work more to stay on top as the teams on the brink of playoffs rack up top talent.
That is my proposal, feel free to vote and give comments on it.

In six seasons, i have not seen one rebuilding team emerge.. Besides you Jon..... I know LA and WAS are on the verge.... If the rebuilding teams and near playoff teams are getting the best FA's... it should make the league a lot more competitive?
i am definitely open to a new free agent system, we'll see what the league members have to say

I hate pick style systems. Why should who you get in free agency be based on how close you are to the playoffs? I don't think it makes any sense. I like the idea of trying to make things more competitive, this doesn't do it for me though.

I'm with Joe, NO on this. FA cash takes STRATEGY, thats WHY the good teams are good and the bad teams stay bad. It's fine, the poor owners don't need any more bones thrown at them. It seems like this is trying to force-feed the bad teams into getting better, without much actual effort.
Certain teams no how to handle their cash, and certain teams dont, but failure in FA shouldn't result in a new system imo.

i'm with joe and demin here. It's not the fault of the better gm's that know how to run teams get penalized for the owners that do not. Like demin said, failure in FA shouldn't result in a new system, it ain't broken and like Joe said, it's more competitive this way! This offseason for example joe used the money he had gotten and made his team better that way, and others who had no money, did what they could. If you can't do free agency right, then you need to take a look at the Houstons, Florida, Chicago, Philadelphias, Cinnys in the league and see (I'm not including Demin, as his team is mostly thru trades). Learn from the owners that do it right, that's my 2 cent!
