In a last minute deal, Cincinnati was able to acquire Carlos Lee from San Francisco to hopefully help defeat Chicago. The Reds traded Harang, a quality starting pitcher, but with an expiring contract he was bound to leave Cincy, so he was sent to San Fran along with cash.. The Reds also traded RP Jerry Blevins, who was very close, family, with Reds GM Blevins. It was definitely a hard move to make, but one that had to be done. The Reds also sent out the red hot 3B Garret Atkins, and powerful pinch hitter 1B Pat Blount.... In return, the Reds get Carlos Lee to help win this year, anything beyond that is a plus.. The Reds also pick up MR Jon Broxton, who should excel in the Reds bullpen... Last but not least, the Reds get 3B Edwin Encarnacion, returning to Cincinnati for the first time in many years... A swap of lower prospects and a late pick rounded out the deal..
Upon Lee and Encarnacion's arrival to the Cincy lineup, Dexter Fowler quickly left... Out 4-6 weeks, Fowler will definitely be missed and only make it tougher for Cincinnati to take over the Central... Although Fowler has slumping hitting only .250, his presence in Center wil be missed....
The hope in Cincinnati is that the Cubs will continue to cool off from their amazing hot start, and the Reds will continue to play consistently well, and hopefully establish a lead in the Central... The addition of Host to the Cubs does not help, but Reds GM Blevins is still feeling confident about his chances....
